Fred and Alf - the ‘sons’ of ’James Porter and Sons Master Builders’ beside the Regent, examining architects plans. Their company qualified for a one hundred pound bonus for every day they shaved off a 1st March 1928 completion deadline. The company was responsible for constructing many of Australia’s other great movie palaces: Adelaide Regent (opened June 1928), Melbourne’s State (February 1929) - also Regent (March 1929) & Plaza (May 1929). Back in Sydney they completed the State in June 1929 and Plaza April 1930.
