Skyview Drive-In

R.B. Briscoe and E.D. Carter operated the short-lived Skyview Drive-In Theatre for Coalgate patrons just outside of town. It possibly opened in 1954 and the films were initially booked by A&O Booking Service out of Dallas. However, the pair took on that duty beginning in 1955. The venue was possibly destroyed by an August 1958 fire reportedly at a vacant drive-in off of U.S.-75 just outside of Coalgate.

There was a small drive-in almost three miles northwest of Coalgate on US 75. I wouldn’t describe that as “just outside” of town, but I’d still guess it’s the Skyview.

A 1955 aerial photo showed the drive-in there. Topo maps continued to show its outline through at least 1984, but a 1981 aerial photo showed only traces of the old drive-in. I’m having a heck of a time getting a decent address for the site out of Google Maps, so I’ll leave that piece to our other experts here.

A closer address is U.S. 75 & Whitt Road, OK.

I couldn’t get “Coalgate” to stick on the address. But the drive in is 500 feet to the northwest of the intersection on the south side of US 75.

Today, it is an empty field with a shed in the middle. There is no trace of the drive in remaining.

Way to go finding it - and that corresponds with the information about the location of the 1958 fire that decimated the former d-i
