Located in the Holbeck district to the south of Leeds city centre. In 1915 the Meadow Road Tabernacle was converted into the People’s Picture Palace, to the plans of architect J.P. Crawford of Harehills, Leeds. The façade was of white face stone and contained an arch 20ft high and 14ft wide as its entrance. Seating was provided for 1,000 in the stalls, with 200 in the circle. The first few rows in front of the screen were long wooden benches, with the remainder of the seats being tip-up, with plush upholstery. It was operated by Mr. Booth Greenwood. Later taken over by H. Hopkins, it was one of the last cinemas in Leeds to be equipped with sound, which eventually happened in March 1930 when a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) system was fitted. The seating capacity was reduced to 855.

By 1944 it had been renamed Palace Cinema. It was closed on 3rd June 1961, the same day as the nearby Strand Cinema on Jack Lane, Hunslet, Leeds was closed.
