Majestic Picture Show

The Majestic Picture Show was opened by March 1910. This theatre appears on the 1913 Sanborn, in a two story brick commercial building that replaced a smaller store sometime after 1907. It’s possible this was purpose built as a theatre, although the bay on the front indicates there was likely a residence on the second floor.

For whatever reason, this was not a success, and the 1920 map shows a clothing store with club rooms above. With a rather odd postwar remodel in enameled metal panels, the building is today home to an Eagles ‘Aerie’.

The Mount Carmel Daily News of March 23, 1910 carried an ad for the Majestic, which was showing the Edison Company’s feature “Frankenstein.”
