The Clay Theatre is Back

Opened in 1919 as the Palace Opera House, and converted to movies in 1936. In recent years, the theater changed hands and an extensive remodel took place. It was a beautiful showplace. The original balcony was converted to another screen in the early-1990’s with 224 seats downstairs and 78 seats upstairs.

The Clay Theatre was closed in 2009. It was reopened in September 2012 and closed June 1, 2014.

I would love to learn more about the grand reopening of this theater! We live in Clay County and it would be a shame if this old theater isn’t revived! I would like to see some older movies shown, maybe even some black and white classics.

It’s good to hear about another closed movie theatre re-opening. Even though I don’t reside in the area, it provides a ray of hope.

A Folio Weekly article from November 2012 about the theatre: http://folioweekly.com/folio1127wkl007.php

As of this date, they’re showing new releases: most recently Jack Reacher and The Hobbit.

My son Zackary and I love this place the people are great and it’s close to home and don’t cost $22.00 for the two of us to just get in. $10.50 is alot better. And the movies are great, also the drive-in we seen too.

Clay Theatre, once again was closed on June 1st. I suspect this might be the end.

“The twin-screen, two-story theater concluded its comeback run on Saturday evening with a screening of ‘The Monuments Men.’”

The theatre was showing this a month after it hit DVD? Were they still running 35mm? If so, I’d imagine that was a major reason for their decision.

The Clamour Theatre Company is currently fundraising in hopes of acquiring the Clay Theatre and re-opening it as a combination movie theatre and live performance space. http://clamourtheatre.org
