New Theatre

The Plaza Theatre was opened by 1927. The theatre had a balcony for adults and smoking. In the late-1920’s it was sold to Fred House and improvements made including upgrading to show talkies. In 1936 it was sold to L.V. Desguin and upgraded, once again. He also changed the name to New Theatre. Desguin subsequently opened the Lincoln Theatre for African-Americans in East Punta Gorda sharing the films from the New Theatre by carrying them back and forth by bicycle.

Desguin also operated the Charlotte Harbor Drive-In, in Punta Gorda, FL.

More of the back story and later days of the New Theatre are required.
