Osaka and the Kansai Region’s largest movie theater is the Osaka Station City Cinema, opening on May 4, 2011 featuring a total capacity of 2,500 seats and was located at the 11th floor of the Osaka Station City’s North Gate Building which opened that same day. Construction of the building took five long years from September 21, 2006 until March 31, 2011. In addition with the opening of the Station City Cinema, it was the replacement of the Shochiku Umeda Piccadilly which closed on January 16, 2011.

Later on during the decade, it was the first movie theater in Japan to install Nestori 3D Cinema Systems in four screens.

It was the second movie theater in Japan to operate by three chains, with the first being the 12-screen Sapporo Cinema Frontier in Hokkaido which opened on February 22, 2003.
