Gem Theatre

This theater appears in listings for 1914. Based on the address, it was located in a small, one story, brick building that was constructed between 1892 and 1899. Crammed in at the end of the block, this was only about half as deep as the still extant building to the east, and had its foundation in the river.

The maps from 1899 through 1920 show this as a barber shop and billiard hall, so the run as a theater was probably a brief experiment by the owner, likely trying to grab some of the early movie craze cash.

The building was long ago demolished, and the site is a vacant lot.
