Located in the New Rossington district to the south of Doncaster. Approval to build a cinema was granted in 1920, but the Hippodrome Cinema didn’t open until 5th July 1929 when its first film screened was William Barrymore in “The Secluded Roadhouse”. The stage was 44ft wide and 20ft deep. There were 8-dressing rooms.

In the early-1960’s bingo was introduced on some nights during the week. It was closed in June 1962 and was demolished soon after. A parade of small shops named the Darnley Buildings were built on the site.
