Opera House

Sac City’s Opera House was constructed sometime in the 1880’s. It was a fine three-story brick structure, rich in detail. The auditorium was on the second floor, above two storefronts, and was accessed by a central stair. A generous balcony and stage were provided.

By 1914, movies were being shown here, but that seems to have stopped around 1926. Sadly, this building, one of the best in town, was destroyed in a 1939 fire, and replaced by a rather nondescript store.
