Cine-Teatro Sao Jorge

The Cine-Teatro Sao Jorge opened on 17th November 1954 with Esther Williams in “Easy to Love”. It had a sweeping curve to its facade, which on the left-hand side had a tiled picture of Saint George and the Dragon the work of ceramic artist and architect Jorge Garizo do Carmo with other decorative tile panels around other parts of the building. Seating was provided in orchestra and balcony levels. The auditorium ceiling contained several troughs containing concealed lighting. It eventually closed and was abandoned for many years.

By 2013 it had been taken over by the Centro Cultural de Universidade Pedagogica and restored.
