The Portland Pantages Theatre opened as a vaudeville house on November 20, 1911. It was the third “fire-proof” theatre to be built in Portland. The cost was $225,000. It seated 1,400. The architect was Emil Shacht, working for owner Alexander Pantages. Films were on the bill during its years as a part of the Pantages vaudeville circuit. It became a full fledged movie house in 1926, following a remodeling by Benjamin Priteca. It operated as the Music Box Theatre (one of six theatres in Portland to bear that name) until it was demolished in 1929.
