On July 31, 2009, Grand Junction’s Daily Sentinel (probably quoting Star owner Pamela Friend) wrote that the Star opened on April 19, 1950, showing “The Younger Brothers”. After all this time, I forgot or didn’t notice that it also quoted me as saying, “Everyone needs to experience the drive-in at least once in their life.”

The 1950 Film Daily Year Book, published early in the year, listed the Skylite Drive-In under Montrose. It also listed a Skylite under Delta (~30 minutes away), so maybe someone there was confused.

The 1951 edition listed both the Star and the Skylite. Hmm.

Fun little note from the March 21, 1960 issue of BoxOffice: “George DeVries of Montrose has postponed the opening of his Star Drive-In — snow is so deep that four-wheel drive vehicles are unable to enter the airer.”

Opening note from the May 20, 1950 issue of BoxOffice:

MONTROSE, COLO. – The new 360-car Star Drive-In near here recently was opened by Harry Barrett and George De Vries. Seats for walk-in patrons yet remain to be installed before the new open air theatre is completed.
