More Details on the Uptown Theatre Collapse
TORONTO, CANADA — According to Yahoo News, yesterday’s collapse of the Uptown Theatre has left one person dead and 14 others injured. As many of you know, the accident comes during the midst of a planned demolition of the theater to make way for an apartment complex.
“The whole thing just came down like a rocket,” said witness Harry Lesik, 65. “It just came down like a ton of bricks.”

BREAKING NEWS: Uptown Theatre Collapses, Killing At Least 1 Person
TORONTO, CANADA — The ongoing demolition of Toronto’s historic Uptown Theatre took a deadly turn today as the theater collapsed, trapping at least five people. For more details, visit CNN, Canada.com, or ABC News for updates throughout the day.

Ed Dobbins sent in a few pictures of the soon-to-be-demolished Grand Theater in Baltimore, Maryland:
“The last picture shows some of the water damage inside. It’s very sad to see it go. The last movie I saw there when I was in high school was Return of the Jedi in Feb. 1984, no heat and a wind chill of -10 outside (and I was drinking a soda……..lol). The last movie I believe that played there was Footloose — to coincide with the video release (I found that strange).”

New Des Plaines Theater Owners Consider Restoration
CHICAGO, IL — According to the Chicago Tribune, brothers Dhitu and Dharmesh Bhagwakar, who purchased the Des Plaines Theater last month from Mount Prospect National Bank, and who previously managed the theater until its closure this past spring, intend to reopen the former vaudeville house soon, showing a mix of first-run East Indian and second-run Hollywood films on the theater’s two screens.

Information Sought by Paper on Iroquois Fire for Disaster’s Centennial
CHICAGO, IL — To mark the 100th anniversary of one of Chicago’s worst tragedies, the December 30, 1903 blaze at Iroquois Theatre in the Loop, which claimed more than 600 lives, the Pioneer Press Online is seeking information from anyone who might have had stories of the fire handed down to them by relatives who survived or were at the scene in some capacity.

New Mission Theatre to be Destroyed?
There should be news anytime now about the new owner of the New Mission Theatre. Reportedly the highest bidder wants to destroy it. I’ll be in touch.

It’s been gutted and floors have been leveled, a couple of windows have been opened, a big roll up door was added to one of the theater’s exterior walls, and a new roof was installed about 4 years ago.
