If you want more on the Carolina Theatre business get WilliamC.Cline’s book “STROKE OF FORTUNE” Mr.Cline was a film booker and writes about many theatres in both states.Pictures too.Empire Publishing.
Oh, Johnnybingc what great statement about the business I worked in from 1974 to late 1983.I could see the showmanship going as far back as the late 70’s. Really when all these Twins,Triples and 4plexes started to open up. I saw a change of “run them and run them out”.I bet it is 100 times worse today.
Wow, what a statement.“this theatre is the last ever LOEWS” do you know how much cinema history that includes to say the end to a chain of theatres, that i think i probably would have enjoyed to punch a time clock for.
August 1 1977 now showing DAY AND DATE with MASTERS 4,“DAY OF THE ANIMALS” and at the HILLTOP only second hit is PAUL NEWMAN in “BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS” a very strange double feature.
Wiliam C.Cline in his book about the theatre business in the Carolinas,“STROKE OF FORTUNE” mentions he booked Drive-ins in Anderson ,but sadly did not list the names of the Drive-ins.
I certainly appreciated UNION PROJECTIONISTS in my day, took alot of stress off of running a theatre. Now managers do everything for still low pay.Glad I got out in 1983.
I am still checking to see if FORT GORDON Has a theatre such as this,I got the SIGNAL the newspaper of Fort Gordon the other day didn’t spot any type of theatre times or an ad. I will keep looking.
August 1 1977 and DANIEL VILLAGE TWIN is still running “SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT” and picks up from NATIONAL HILLS Disney’s “HERBIE GOES TO MONTE CARLO” two car flicks at the twin.
Great movie ads.
Also hope Tlsloews spots this he is big LOEWS man.
thanks raysson.
Thanks Jeff.I worked for ABC,Plitt and GCC,but always knew of Loews.
Thanks for the ad Bill.
Funny,I saw “OLIVER” with my Cousin when visited me in Georgia from Ohio.
Also Glad to see all the local response,How about some stories on the WHITE HORSE DRIVE-in in Greenville.
The Skyway Drive in was part of the Kincey Circuit in the late 50’s.It parked 500 cars in 1956.
1956 it was owned by Sanders and Temple. In 1956 it parked 400 cars so no changes were made.

thanks Trolleyguy.Isorta thought that was what was going on.
Good 1977 ad,see “THE CHEERLEADERS” was cut to an R Rating.
They were plugging a Drive -in town too ? Sorta strange looks like E.T is playing there or at another theatre?
