Why would you get in a Business to close theatres if you call yourself a theatre circuit,exhibitor.Could you see LOEWS ever doing that in the Glory days. Heck No.
No wonder I couldn’t find this theatre it is called LENNOX THEATRE and not LENOX THEATRE, Well, Guys on OCT.20 1964 it was called LENOX THEATRE. Don’t know why or when the other “N” was added. Anyways from an old KNOXVILLE paper,the LENOX was playing “WRONG ARM OF THE LAW” with Peter Sellers and a sex comedy 1964 style called “THE ARMOROUS GENERAL”.A double feature at the LENOX.Maybe a Knoxville Theatre dawg can solve the mystery on when the and why the extra “N” was Added. Yes, Smyjmy,you are right.We have one left in Augusta.MASTERS 7 Value Cinemas.It was a Four plex when it opened in 1975.Remodeled and two screen added ,really a nice $2.00 theatre when so many are left just to fall apart.It is a pity the CAROLINA BEACH 4 CINEMA couldn’t be use as a dollar theatre.The more I read about this CARMIKE outfit on CT they must just buy screens drain what profit they can,put nothing into the theatre and Close up.CT is littered with CARMIKE STORIES.I guess I am the only one that notices.Am I Wrong?
I will always remember this theatre from “BLAZING SADDLES” and way above,“EARTHQUAKE” brought pieces of old downtown theatres ceilings across the country.
You guys seem to know Knoxville . I have a Knoxville Newspaper with the movie ads I found in a relative’s house. Oct 20 1964 THE LENOX THEATRE.I submitted it to CT,but can’t find it; is this a theatre that got a name change.The address is so small it looks like Broadway St or Road or Ave,? Thanks.
Oh,Mike You guys were playing “MARY POPPINS” sing-a-long that afternoon. Given anything to had 2001 on that afternoon.I can’t handle musicals or Sing-a-longs.Great Theatre.Bought several MEGAPLEX T-Shirts!
i am good a good friend of Nick DiMaggio,When i visited him the Tampa theatre Tour was what I wanted.And Got it,when we got to the booth i had to correct the tour guide on a couple of things.Never was a operator,but was in management at several different chains.Nick knows the old retired projectionist from the FUN-LAN and it breaks his heart to see how that mess was created.What a nightmare of a Drive-in.We were thinking about driving to the Silvermoon that night,but after driving down from Augusta i was just too tired to make that trip when the FUN-LAN was so close.Looking back, I wish like Heck we would have headed out to Lakeland,Nick knew where it was at.I guess you noticed Nick has Done a great job on the history of a lot of Tampascreens.
Right Again,but i rarely go.After 7 years in the business I find myself watching the theatre operation and not the movie.I have to go when hardly anyone is in the theatre.
