Good old WEST TOWN THEATRE.I worked for ABC THEATRES in Augusta, and later Plitt.then GCC. You guys worked out of Atlanta didn’t you.and our homeoffice was Charlotte. was mainly a Assistant for several years with all three chains.
I think you guys pretty much nailed it on the head.there was of course quite a bit of sex,and I ain’t talking about what was on the screen.I will leave it at that.
Thanks Matt. One old theatre dawg to another,I knew you had a story in you.Hated the KKK part, but your mom and dad were very special people to take care of children,I am a father of four and appreciate their efforts.
Great story.please add to it.I know you have great stories to tell.all of us on CT that worked or managed theatres have great stories, and i believe about 100% of stories told.
I always hate to hear the truth,“film will be a thing of the past” I worked in a time that as much as i hated carrying film cans up to the booth for the projectionist I felt i had something in my hand,Clint Eastwood’s latest western,Woody Allen’s comedies or a bio-pic.what do they do now have put in a envolpe and mail it to you,No film cans,No going up to the booth a picking up clips from a movie cut by a projectionist,no looking at the film can and see all the different movies that had used those cans. I was a booth the other day and the movie came in a cardboard BOX.Glad I got out of the business in 1983.
Might be,I just took it from the 1956 motion picture almanac. We are aware about how they are constanly changing names, makes you not want to add a theatre.
Why does everyone have to Charge to see archives.my local paper wants some crazy amount to see the old newspaper ads on our old theatres.I guess i could go to the Library for free and access, but what a pain everyone has to make a buck.History should be free.
Good News.Outta close them all down.

Thanks again Joe.Your research is always welcomed.

thanks Ken Roe.
I finally found out the hard way,the theatre shown in “DIRTY HARRY” was on the back lot at WARNER BROTHERS. And not in Downtown S.F.
Don’t try and locate the theatre in “DIRTY HARRY” that part was filmed on the back lot at Warner Brothers, and not in downtown San Francisco.
Thanks again,Don.
yeah,it gets hard to take that big Almanac out and give info, but so many people want it.Sometimes it is wrong and boy do they let you know.

My info,I forgot to mention it came from BOXOFFICE.
He was the worst kind of a preacher, the theatre would have been better served showing 007 movies.

Stein Theatres seem to own quite a few South Georgia theatres, but none in Flordia,at least in 1956 there were none in Flordia.
Was the creepy Basement full of old one sheets? I hit a Gold mine in an “OLD CREEPY BASEMENT” in the MILLER THEATRE.
