And you knew what change over was. These high school projectionists today would not be able to run a carbon-arc lamp.So glad we had union projectionists in the theatres i worked.
Yeah,JAZZLAND can’t believe they would not let you take pictures. The show might have been enforcing that rule.Lots of roadshows want to no cameras in the building.I am stagehand and see it first hand quite a bit.
I bet it looks like the closed GCC Regency Exchange 8 here in Augusta.Got in through an old exit door spent hours exploring. The booth was just like it was left when they closed for good in the late 90’s.However, a pack of rats was enjoying all the candy and popcorn left in the storage room.
Thanks for all the great pictures.“Ice Station Zerba” looked great and the ad for 2001 was just like the one Nick sent me from an ad he saved from the Tampa newspaper in 1968.
Never got any feedback much in my years in the business,Oh.someone would ask if we were getting this movie or could book a certain Late Show, but this was back in the 70’s when theatres were run by pros from the management to the booth.Sadly, today it is mainly kids running the theatres.
Gene-Paul you are so correct.Don’t remember the news back in the 70’s or even early 80’s reporting film grosses.we saw it in Boxoffice Magazine monthly. Too Much WEEKEND.
mOvies need to stay in 35mm film;It is movie. You can take it out the cans.hold to light and see a frame of a film.AS much as i hated carrying film cans to the booth I knew I had Clint Eastwood’s latest adventure in my popcorn stained hands.
Yeah,We have an IMAX here in Augusta,I hardly ever go to the movies anymore after seven years in business i always find myself on the “look”.Guess like a cop. I will notice a wad of gum on the screen when I am sure no else sees it,At least my kids never did.People that know much more than I about IMAX swear the Regal here does not have true IMAX.Whatever that means,Good luck with “INCEPTION” hopefully you can enjoy it in peace.

But those downtown theatres just made you feel a little bit more special.
Doesn’t make sense to take over a “shabby” theatre.I have seen some of their theatres in smaller towns and they are dumps.
