I guess I should slow down,but doggone it I can see how people get hooked on these dang computers.I wouldn’t even be on one now if it wasn’t for CT.I actually believed a couple of friends and myself would be the only ones ever have any interest in picking tics off of each other from exploring old DRive-ins.Or coughing our lungs out from sneaking into closed rotting downtown theatres. I plan on putting every DRive-in from Georgia that is not already on CT on the Cinema Treasures site,But for you I promise to slow down.But I just this morning put about 10 drive-ins on before reading this.
Stan ,Elanor was her first name.I wrote her once about her review on a Dirty Harry movie,I think it was “SUDDEN IMPACT” she unlike most big city film critics really liked this Dirty Harry movie and admitted to me she had a crush on Clint Eastwood,I have the letter somewhere.I saw 2001 in 70mm at National Hills here in Augusta,and for a 12 year old not really understanding the movie,the beauty of space,well its a wonder I never went to NASA for work.

Found another Tina Slover review,“WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE?” It played the Almont from Friday-Sunday,stating,“the audience thought it was boring,They couldn’t keep track of the story,It was not as good as we played it up to be”.Ruth Gordon stars.

Manager Jerry Reiter in a March 1970 issue of BOxoffice said that the movie “THE WILD BUNCH” played the Rialto and said “FOR TOO MUCH BLOOD FOR MY PATRONS”,but he said he got many good comments. Played Wednesday- Saturday.Cold Iowa weather.
In 1970 it was showing “ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST” the manager of the New Theatre,Terry Axley said it did good business selling Fonda on the movie. It played Sunday and Monday with Cool and dry weather.Also Playing was “THE VALLEY OF the GWANGI"It did good saturday matinee business according to Axley. "SMITH” with Glenn Ford did poor business “poor gross for a Disney”. “WINNING” was a poor performer for a Paul Newman movie.“The public knows what it wants” he said of this Newman race car picture. “HARD CONTACT” with James Coburn did no business,“UNLESS YOU ARE desperate for a picture it did nothing in a small town” said Terry Axley.
Also playing at the MACV THEATRE was “THE MAD ROOM” “packed with enough suspense to entertain the audience” Reid Ward. Played Sunday with good weather.Stella Stevens starred in this Columbia film.
Joseph Faris was the manager back in March 1970,he commented to Boxoffice on the epic movie,“BATTLE OF BRITAIN” “It was an excellent picture.Plenty of Action.Most people who saw it thought so too”.It played Wedensday- Monday.Weather was Cold.
I can’t believe small town politics.Can’t say that anything has really changed.It wasn’t like Mr.McIntosh was running X -rated movies.
Read the Melroy Theatre it has more info since the same man owned both theatres.
