Carmike is leading the way with reduced concessions? Must explain why I see so many Carmike Cinemas closing on CT.Someone told me a long, long time ago that that is how theatres stay open. Hey,folks were gripping when we sold a large coke for 65 cents in the 70’s!
Hey,There is an outfit called Epic in the Carolinas that when the A.C. went out in a second run Quad they told patrons to bring a fan to hand fan themselves. No I ain’t making it up, it came from a Former manager.
Grossest job at a Drive-in picking up used condoms,Usually on the back rows.I did for a summer along with the other thrash at Forest City,N.C. drive-in, the Tri-City Drive-in {on CT}.
Patsy you are so right. The 1976 “KING KONG” was a joke. This one is made by a computer? no thanks.Where are the craftsmen that have been replaced by computers,
Once Loews sold to Martin and they weren’t going to remove the LOEWS sign someone should have done like you said and disconnected the breakers. When ABC sold to Plitt the next day the ABC logo you see on TV was long gone!
I wish my Almanac had walk-in Theatres too,but I only have Drive-ins I would love to have movie theatres more so than the Drive-ins,I wonder if every other year they went back and forth?
I was telling someone the other day,PatricaNC,I think. that I have seen on Cinema Treasures that you can buy a Almanac.Heck,I think I gave one to Nick,See if he will sell you his,Knowing Nick, He might give it to you.
I bet the locals stay out of the tourist trap and the vistors don’t want to waste time in a theatre.Gatlinburg has gone down down hill,it could take a look at Hilton Head and see how to do it right. They have ruined the Smokeys.
Don’t think i ever of a twin theatre with two balconies.this is a neat Theatre and thanks again for the pictures chuck1231,and Joe’s always good research.
Great pictures,Penway14.Here are some more facts from 1956 Almanac. It parked 900 cars making it a huge Drive-in.And was owned in the late fifties by V.Smith. Who owned a few Drive-ins in Pennsylvania.
The Hillcrest drive-in parked 350 cars and in 1956 was owned by Hallowell and Wetzstein.
You won’t have to worry about Carmike they wrote the book on closing theatres just read all the stories on CT.

I Think it would be a neat theatre to work.
It is a wonder someone didn’t sue someone.sadly, today I bet that would happen. Thanks Alalvarez and Tlsloews.
