It is always good to get a Tennessee Drive-in on CT. Hi-Way 50 was a drive-in that held 350 cars and was owned in the late 50’s by Lewisburg Theatre Co.
As the above marquee shows “ELVIS” movies were always a solid hit at the Drive-ins.The Mena drive-in put 220 cars on the lot owned by Longacre & Cowden.
My 1956 Almanac has the same owner as KenMc wrote. On capacity it has in the book and you can figure it out “20&200"must have been an interesting movie theatre.
The Temple Drive-in can’t be overlooked so here are a few facts. It parked 300 cars,so it must have been enlarged if the above post is true.It was owned by Allied.
Was this Drive-in called BRITANNIA HEIGHTS Drive-in in the late 50’s. That drive-in parked 500 cars and was owned by Twinex which ran quite a few screens in Ontario.
i have it parking 600 cars in 1956 and owned that same year by N.N.Bernstein, Floyd ran the other Drive-in Town,so they could have bought this screen later.
I had forgotten all about “SPECIAL DELIVERY” with BO Svenson and i think Cybil Sheppard.I remember us playing that film, first run.Think I might even have the one sheet.
I just think we found spots around the side of the theatre.A few times i used parking metters but it was about a dime for two hours,so it wasn’t going to break a theatre employee.
71dude,Thanks for listing all those movies.I worked in the business most of the 70’s and off and on in the 80’s so many of those titles I had forgotten.
I have finally cut six hours of theatre party videos from stories on the Imperial,National Hills & Columbia 1 and 2 into about 95 minutes of pure theatre history with a lot of funny stories from of Theatre reunions in the mid 80’s.I had never thought about parking until you guys mentioned it.
I guess I am getting spoiled by Nick’s great articles.I don’t see how he has the time. But i enjoy reading them.He made a book on the RITZ theatre that you wouldn’t believe.Tampa theatre.

Well, yeah, but 95% of our talking is about cinemas not the how well the Braves are doing.
That sure looks like a theatre to me the auditorum could turn behind a building, like the Miller theatre in Augusta.
thanks,Bob.
Yep,That is the theatre i saw.I am so glad they saved it. Thanks for getting the picture on SiliconSam.
You know that is an interesting statement about Drive-ins,Any special reason?

Wasn’t fun seeing moviegoers exiting the movies throwing chops and kicks every where.Made me long for National Hills and G rated Disney Product.
No Matt, wish i did.I got that info from The 1956 Motion Picture Almanac.Good Hunting.
