I guess you all played it. I missed “THE EXORCIST” crowds, but I know “JAWS” more than made up for it. I have two of the one-sheets that were at the Imperial.I thought about giving them one since what they have in Lounge is a reprint.
My brother who is in the Health club business said he visited a location i think in LOUISVILLE.KY. that was a like a six plex that was also a spa/Health club. So watch a movie and work out.Only in the states i guess,Orpheum.
you get a chance go to my homepage{is that what they call it}There is a post about “JAWS” I commented about it and was looking for the ad with Barkley and how our City Manager had figured out to the foot how many times he played it from the booth. If i find the ad i will include it in the article. Haven’t heard from Robin. She was suppose to get some of TLSLOEWS Drive-ins on from Nashville,Oh well.
I have tried to make good comments on most of my posts.TLSLOEWS wrote something about CINEMATOURS,or something,is that like CT? you know i have no idea how to find it. I Like CT alot.
I didn’t say this in the above post, but somehow he saved the tail from “SUMMER OF 42” and it has the PG rating.Boy, wait til he sees the one-sheet. I bet they didn’t trim much of anything, standards change, take a look at “MIDNIGHT COWBOY” PG-13 today easy and i am a conservative guy as you know. Yep, there are two Downtown theatres in NORTH AUGUSTA,S.C., across the river and two what i think might be BLACK drive-ins.I really need Bill and Ray Hutto to help me because they are much older.I wish i would have done my theatres like you one big story and not “HAIRED BRAINED” like one CT member wrote, I guess they do go all over the place, but heck that’s me.
After all has been said. I really don’t care if i ever see “JAWS” again. Summer of 75 will never be forgotten for those of us lucky enough to work BRUCE THE SHARK.
Boy, Could i write a book on"JAWS" I was employeed about seven miles up the road at NATIONAL HILLS and according to our city Manager he thought “JAWS” who be a joke. It was no joke. Most of us ushers were working “BENJI” at National Hills and then driving down to the IMPERIAL in downtown Augusta to help handle the thousands that showed, Our city manager had one concession girl on duty and one Boxoffice girl and the doorman. And get this he goes on vacation that week.We somehow manage to pull it off with a couple of assistants And the manager from NATIONAL HILLS. You gotta love the business.
John, could you have the city misspelled? I have found a Monticello, Iowa with a MONTE THEATRE that was owned by IOWA UNITED THEATRES 1123 High Street.Des Monies. This is from a 1956 Motion Picture Almanac.
I hope this helps you if the city was just misspelled.
Nick, what is the next one.Guess what ALL BY MYSELF i am working up a couple of new theatres for CT,waiting on Bill to send back a letter about a few questions on the theatres i am working up.I tried to call him,but i guess he doesn’t have a phone anymore.
You know HE swears “SUMMER OF 42” was rated PG. I took a picture of the one sheet that is in my Theatre poster display frame and MAILED IT TO HIM. It was released as an R-Rated film. RIGHT!!!!!! Why am I asking you it is one the ONE-SHEET. I hate to be told i am wrong when I know I am right. If you have a newspaper ad of"SUMMER of 42" PLEZ mail it to him. Oh well, better not.
More movies that played on that large screen.
“JUDGE ROY BEAN” rated PG. 02-07-73
04-18-73 very weak sequel to “SUMMER OF ‘42”, “CLASS OF '44” opens rated PG.
05-23-73 “HITLER,THE LAST TEN DAYS” rated PG.
You gotta be kidding me. “OCTOPUSSY” was in 70mm.Wouldn’t have ever believed that when it ranks so low with most 007 fans,I can’t count Connery’s last Bond, not offical 007 series.I just saw some of the other titles and you would think England’s second greatest Export would have at least the Royal Treatment.
I look back at my days and how i would sometime complain to my City Manager about having to Drive about 15 miles to the Imperial to sometimes open it up,after passing two our other ABC THEATRES . Really I was quite lucky to have the keys and work a Downtown Theatre. Joe V. I know you wrote in 2008 about the PARAMOUNT and a reunion, I hope you had one we have been lucky here in Augusta to be able to have several get togethers since 1985, When I thought about putting our first together.
Nick, thanks for the article on my old theatre chain,GCC. Our lobby at REGENCY MALL I,II & III was also very small. So you saw the “THE GROOVE TUBE” that was a very funny ,but the nudity was really guite a bit for most R—rated movies. We actually played it at NATIONAL HILLS of all places and for second run did quite well.11 years of “ROCKY HORROR” the few months we played it at REGENCY MALL the city was about to pull our business license,at least that is what a few local officals wanted.{Story on CT,Regency Mall}. The seats and everything just like GCC. 2010 was not anything like our favorite movie of 1968.I don’t think it did good really anywhere it played, and I know the screens were small at GCC great story.
I thought you might still see the foundation.it has been years but when i do pass it i always look over where the MELODY proudly stood. Thanks, Bob for at least thinking about.I wish locals there knew and cared enough to get on CT.Plenty of stories I know.
I read where Thomson had a classic car day there with classic cars line down main street in front of the Theatre. A smart theatre manager would have had a tie in ,and show a classic movie with a car as the main story line, but no they were playing regular features. No one thinks of promotions much any more.
I see Robin is back at National Hills.
I guess you all played it. I missed “THE EXORCIST” crowds, but I know “JAWS” more than made up for it. I have two of the one-sheets that were at the Imperial.I thought about giving them one since what they have in Lounge is a reprint.
Yes, I know you all are glad it is over.I will check the email once i get off CT.
My brother who is in the Health club business said he visited a location i think in LOUISVILLE.KY. that was a like a six plex that was also a spa/Health club. So watch a movie and work out.Only in the states i guess,Orpheum.
Robin, I dedicate this song to you “SCHOOL’S OUT” Alice Cooper Our kind of music.
You gotta be kidding Tim. I think that might just top mine. At least both of mine were R- rated.

thanks, CWalczak.
Meyer’s Films were tame has you stated. He did do a big budget for him, wasn’t it “BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS” early 70’s and was a X-rated movie.

Most screwed up DOUBLE FEATURE.12-17-71.You can’t make this up.
“SHAFT” and “WHERE’S POPPA?”. Someone plez try and top that one.
I triple that,guys.

To work a 007 Premiere,What a thrill.Great stories.Noticed none of the Bonds were in70mm,not even the epic O.H.M.S.S..
Sean and Kyle when they were 10 and 12 could sneak in the 20 plex all the time, just gotta look like you belong. Saved me some money.
