Cone,If you have anything on the Alps and Athens Drive-ins in Athens plez add them to the very small intro i did. Great to read your articles. TLSLOEWS.you a theatre dawg too.
If anyone has anything on this Drive-in it will be Nick. I have it parking 270 cars making it one of Tampa’s smaller Drive-ins it was owned in 1956 by L.A.Stein.
Nope, Nick i think between what you did and the few i did that is about all except for a theatre in North Augusta that Bill will have get some info to me on.
I would like to see more theatres on CT from Macon. We have managed to cover a good of theatre history in Atlanta and Augusta,Can’t believe there are not some old theatre Dawgs in the city of Little Richard.
Thank you TLSLOEWS and NICK.Bet you are glad you don’t have to add a theatre for me anymore,Sad part is i have just about done all the theatres around Augusta. With your help,i might add.
When i worked for GCC we inventoried the whole concession, not just what was out in the concession stand, but the stock room of boxes and boxes of candy. And we did this every night not just Thursday night when the weekly reports had to be sent off to Boston.Plez don’t blame it on staff.Too many old theatre dawgs out here know better.
If we had the money we could build the screen,Nick could run the booth and you could handle the concession and Box office; and i could be the manager.LOL.
It is a pity the Hi-way 56 Drive-in had to close after a long closure. With both the Dixie and 56 gone i guess one would drive to Atlanta to see a drive-in.
I wish i had more and really didn’t realize Thomson had a Drive-in until one day i noticed the foundation and it looked like it might have been a Drive-in Theatre.Sure enough, once i found the Bulldozed screen i had it pay dirt. When i found the 1956 motion Picture almanac i found Thomson and that had to be the Melody, unless another expert on here says different and boy, i have found out there are some experts on CT which is not a bad thing.
Family members running the Kendra in the early 90’s were Todd Dearing {who was a real projectionist, that had to make change overs,no platter for him} Kendra Dearing, whose name shines on the Marquee runs everything along with help from Marlyn Sanders and Ken Sanders. This could be one of the last Drive-ins in that area.
The Kendra Drive-in is a family operation. The story told by Employees was that years ago two girls kept coming to the Drive-in and Marlyn Sanders couldn’t figure out why.Found out they were “working Girls” and they were working the lot propositioning men to come back to their car.Stories like this you can’t make up. Back in 1974 the Kendra decided to show “THE CHEERLEADERS” and “Grimm’s Fairy Tales for Adults”.Both X rated, but hardly hard-core. They over sold the Drive-in folks wanting to walk in and the employees kept hearing “Don’t tell my preacher I was here”.
Yep, those are the Drive-ins AND SOME OF MY BEST WRITING! LOL. I got them on,Plus Hi-way 56,Dixie,and Melody Drive-ins tonight. I haven’t seen the KENDRA ON YET.The others are already on,hope they didn’t have a problem with what i wrote. The Kendra Drive-in had the Hooker story in it. Okay, you look so young i was 12 in 68 and wasn’t getting in any R -rated flicks. TLSLOEWS would be proud of you.
Man, i would ave loved to be that close to a Drive-in. Have a friend here in Augusta and the WEIS DRIVE-In supplied entertainment for a whole row of houses. During the summer, families would set up yard chairs and enjoy the movies and he said for the most part you could hear fine.
Never heard that quote before,Should have shared with other theatre chains.

Yes, it parked 250 cars and in 1956 it was operated by Hanna Theatre Services.Which ran quite a few Drive-ins in that state.

The Mt.Scott Drive-in in 1956 parked 500 cars compared to 600 cars at the Hawkins and Austin Drive-ins in Lawton. Mt.Scott was owned by Volney Hamm.
Nope, Nick i think between what you did and the few i did that is about all except for a theatre in North Augusta that Bill will have get some info to me on.
I haven’t seen Robin on CT in quite awhile.Maybe she wasn’t a really an old theatre dawg.
I don’t have anything on that theatre.

Must be a Georgia thing.Bunch of us from ABC/PLITT try and get together for dinner once a year in Augusta.Great to have friends like that.
Nick is there a dollar theatre in Tampa.A second run theatre there might do good if you can keep the trash out.
Made more sense than a lot of double features I have noticed on Drive-ins on CT.
All i have is that old newspaper ad.Bill might have seen it,but not me.

Nick, i am going to give it a look. I never watched it, just when we use to walk the aisles and stand at the back exit door.
