John Boorman, “DELIVERANCE” . Great director, maybe at the age of 17 i couldn’t get into it,but it changed Peter’s life. Maybe,i will give it another look.Great looking one-sheet,wish i would have kept one.
Did you see “Candy” opening night, You wrote she had a recorded message, but you were not old enough to see it in 1968? I submitted those Drive-ins,Orangeburg,Bon-Air,and Kendra Drive-in with Jennifer’s help. It was a task to do,so i really appreciated all those theatres you got on for me. So please keep an eye out for them I guess Ct has to read them over before printing them.I tried to keep YOUR high standards,Nick.
Me Too,TLSLOEWS.was thinking about you and your family. We had one of those 100 year floods in 1990 a day after my son Kyle was born.Almost a foot here and we are on a river too,but big levis to protect Augusta.
I have always wanted to see a movie here it is a beautiful location with the North Carolina Mountains behind the screen. Visited a couple of times during the day and took pictures. Pretty sure they have a platter having looked in the window. Problem is when coming from Charlotte,THe Belmont Drive in is right off 1-85 and since we are coming from after a day a Carowinds and from Georgia it just makes sense to stop there, but I do hope to catch a film there. Looks like the marquee could use some paint. The picture I have of it it looks great. Another great gem for metro Charlotte.
“Nickleodeon” had a seven week run here!Must not have been playing day and date with other locations in that city.7 weeks for that O'Neal-Reynolds turkey.
“ZARDOZ” Sean Connery. What a bomb.Played it a week and it was gone and I don’t think to drive-ins.We had doorman who stayed high on Grass. He saw “ZARDOZ” and it completely “Changed his Life”.Go figure. No Roger you weren’t going crazy.Played at {National Hills Theatre,on CT}.
Can’t remember you ever told me they opened the theatre with a prayer, which there is nothing wrong in that, but “CANDY” a rather hot pictue for its day. Really.LOEWS slipped up on that one.I know something should have been booked in.We opened COLUMBIA 2 with “A Star is Born” which was an R rated film but you gotta admit a few steps up from this drive-in movie. I am pretty sure you sent me the Newspaper ad of opening night. Ringo Starr co-star.Just about the time the Beatles were breaking up.Terry Sutherland wrote it.He penned “The Magic Christian” a M rated movie.
As with the Bon-Air Drive-in, any extra facts on this Drive-in would be helpful.
Any help with more info on this Drive-in would appreciated.
Tlsloews. It played a week here.I know it played Nashville.Probably a week.

Did you guys play it? We opened a new twin theatre with it and within a week or two it had died.

Thanks drakeg 1959.
They must have enlarged the lot, in 1956 it parked 250 cars. Don’t remember it being that big. Gay Stinett owned it in the 50’s.

Never heard of a rich theatre manager,I think we all did it for the love of the business.

I think this is my first Drive-in in Oregon. You are right it parked 250 cars and i have it owned in 1956 by W.H.Hibbert.
Hope TLSLOEWS didn’t get washed away.We are getting some of it now. Only 2 inches.
Great Article I wish i had to the time to do Augusta’s theatres the way you have done for Tampa.

Oak Ridge,Tenn. probably had the same expansion of screens in the 50’s.Both Cities built the A-Bomb.
In 1956 Omaha had 5 Drive-ins. Sunset Drive-in had either closed are wasn’t built yet. It wasn’t inclued in the five, unless of a name change.
It did have a short life, but Aiken S.C. went drive-in crazy at that time maybe the bomb plant had something to do with it.
