Need some explaination on this one.when ABC sold out to PLitt Theatres all our ABC logos came off the building and uniforms.Doorman,usher and Assistant Managers got that ugly looking PLITT THEATRES logo to wear.There went all the girls in the nightclubs.
It looks so much like a small town theatre from the front.You expect big theatres in large cities. Thanks for pictures TLSLOEWS and Robin of course you are a blessing.
Well, in 1956 the MIDWAY wasn’t playing trash.It had a good standing as a theatre that booked movies the locals liked. Westerns are a big pull in that region. It parked 200 cars and in the late 50’s it was owned by J.N. Wallace.
See Pal Theatre {Wadley,Ga.} for more info. PAl theatres were run by President of the chain,M.F.Brice with General Manager Pete Brice. Pete Brice served as Booker in this family run theatre chain in small South Georgia towns. Pal THEATRES also operated a few Drive-ins in these small towns.
PAL AMUSEMENTS was located in Vidalia,Georgia known for its onions,not theatres but was the home office to Abbeville,Glenville,Hinesville,Louisville,Lyons,Millen,Mt.Vernon, Soperton,Vidalia and Wadley Georgia.
All very small towns mainly in the South Georgia Area . Below Augusta and Macon on the fall line.
Sept. 2, 2006 Now showing “BARNYARD: THE ORIGINAL PARTY ANIMALS” is the first feature for the Kids. Also “TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY”. and a third late feature “WORLD TRADE CENTER”.
Each Ed was a daily gross,but like i was telling CHuck 1231 it might include Concessions Too. Were not separated in the old Ledger. I am waiting for Bill Barkley to let me know about CAT BALLOU and SHIP OF FOOLS. I never heard of the Collector. He ran movies there from the middle 60’s to closing.
TSLOEWS,haven’t heard from NIck in Tampa in a long time.With all these TAMPA THEATRES on CT he would be a big source of info. Hope he is okay.

Same Drive-in? There was a Fran-LIN DRIVE-In in Mulberry,Fla. in the late 50’s.Wonder if it is a name change?
Well, the CINDERELLA/ KING DRIVE-In parked 900 cars and was owned by Virble post.This in the late 50’s,guys.
Has to be one the worst looking twin theatres in this country. It had to be a mom and pop operation.
No MADISON DRIVE-IN in 1956.either.

this rather small Drive-in parked 150 cars in 1956 and was owned by E.E.Hopkins.
Yes it opened has the HI PARK DRIVE-In and parked 550 cars and was owned in 1956 by C.H.Weaver.
Timeline from 1957 to 1967 must be right by 1956 Motion Picture Almanac has no such Drive-in listed,

In my 1956 motion picture almanac it has the drive-in listed but no capacity or owner listed one of the few i have come across like that.
This Drive-in parked 1,500 cars and was owned by the Berman brothers.
Yep, it parked 200 cars in 1956 and was owned by Barron Drotz.

Ken, My 1956 Motion picture Almanac has 638 cars and still owned by Avro. I have heard from others often Drive-ins give different numbers on cars.
I know it would impossible to have a top ten DRIVE-INS,but if it were THE FOUNTAIN VALLEY would have to place somewhere in those numbers.
It was a rather large Drive-in parking 850 cars and the SOUTH GATE DRIVE-In was owned by ALADDIN DRIVE-IN THEATRE INC. All this in 1956.
