The flyers Diane and you are thinking about are a good way to gauge the response. But I think when you get down to it we will have to pick a weekend that hopefully folks don’t have a big vacation planned.
Okay, I have several addresses, and i might be wrong, they might not mind driving to your place,so I will get them in the mail to you. I would love to see everyone.
It is amazing how many Drive-in Theatres were in this city in 1974. August 9 1974 your OAKLEY Drive-in was playing that horrible movie “BORN LOSERS” which was playing day and date with several other walk-in and Drive-in Theatres. The second feature was a DICK VAN DYKE comedy which shows crazy bookings, “COLD TURKEY” both rated PG.
I personally liked the old single screen theatre. I think once you have more than a triple or quad. You lose the THEATRE experience.Anyone from the business in the 70’s to early 80’s; like I was will back me 100%.
Saw" Jeremiah Johnson"and there we actully put a couple of guys in the trunk. Guess everyone has. Saw “SERPICO” there and a little sleeper second hit “BANG THE DRUM SLOWLY” “RETURN OF THE DRAGON” and “FIVE FINGERS OF DEATH”. It was a great drive-in.
On August 9 1974 a friday one of the worst film makers ever and the 20th Century is showing it is BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND…“BORN LOSERS” with Tom Laughlin as Billy Jack. This re-release is rated PG.It also opened at the ESQUIRE Theatre the same night. Long way from “THE ROBE”.
There were boxes full in the old MILLER THEATRE in Augusta, but i bet they tossed in the trash. renovating the MILLER some of the VOLunteers were throwing all kinds of old theatre items in the dumpster.AS in San Francisco.
Not to let out Bill’s Secret, but he has a sound 16mm projector and at one of our parties showed trailers that were sent to the TV stations to play for ads.No Video in them days. The previews he showed were mainly movies that came to the IMPERIAL.It was neat to watch, but don’t let on if he is planning a surprize.
Well, we can certainly do it at your place, but you will have to settle for fewer folks. As i explained before,You in Hephizbah, and Me in Evans is too far for those sorta half way wanting to come and not. Our three biggest reunion parties, and Bill will back me up were two behind NATIONAL HILLS and one on Central Ave, AS much as I am loved in the gang of theatre folks when it moved to my place i think we had maybe five folks. I would still like to get one together next fall at that spot we hit last year. The food was really secondary.everyone just wanted to talk THEATRE. I left messages about me not coming on our other two theatres tO COVER MYSELF.
TLsloews when I saw VALLEY drive-in on your page I thought it might the one I wrote about in Gloverville.S.C. Outside of Augusta.Go read it if you get a chance.I know it ain’t as good as Nick’s creations. I couldn’t make the reunion party at Robin’s but I left her a note on all three ABC/ PLITT theatres in Augusta to cover myself. National Hills,Columbia Square Cinemas and the IMPERIAL.
In 1956 the PLAINS DRIVE-IN parked 800 cars making it the largest Drive-in in Odessa it was owned by Mrs.Maggie Scott.
In 1956 it parked 325 cars! Someone must have added on to the HI-ROAD DRIVE-IN. It was owned by Ohio Theatre Service Corp.

Sometimes it is hard for me to put a theatre in SEARCH that i know is on CT,but comes back saying it is not on CT.I never could understand Computers.

It also must have opened in the late 50’s or 60’s cause it is not listed in my Motion Picture Almanac 1956. Five other Drive-ins are listed.
