Last time I drove the Pal it was closed and i figured it would never reopen. In Louisville,Ga. there is a PAL theatre there that the last time I got that way was serving a meal and a movie.
Those jackets looked good too,you would be amazed at how many girls one could pick up. They would see the ABC logo and think TV even though it has THEATRE underneath,Of course us old theatre dawgs would never correct them. The jacket i own comes from Jim Neely via the IMPERIAL.
Pictures looked good.It was the best of times.it was the worst of times walking up to a theatre that i had so many great friendships.Don’t think it would have happen had i worked at a burger joint. Not that I ever would! I was going to work in a theatre, when going to the movies use to be special like traveling in a jet,one would get dressed up. Today Jet flying is akin to a bus stop. Glad i got in when I did. We got in on the tail end of the theatre business meaning SHOWMANSHIP.
TLSLOEWS.I loved the movie that much, heck i even cassette taped BUTCH CASSIDY,but it was taped inside the theatre before I worked there. So it did not sound as good as taping it from the projector.
I wouldn’t think they would need cue marks, but that story was true.I think after that they put a 5 gallon plaster bucket in the booth. The life of a Projectionist!
Ray, it was great talking with you about the SOUTHSIDE CINEMA. i had forgotten you reopened one side after closing the twin up. I couldn’t get Tony B.,but I think I will have a good story on the HIGHWAY 56 DRIVE-IN.Keep your eyes on CT.
I never know about my weekends, depends on what is at the civic center.Remember at our reunion I had to leave alot earlier than I wanted because of a show.
It must have closed before 1967 because i can find no ads in the Knoxville papers i have. has anyone in Knoxville written up the Twin_air Drive-in on CT. When i search for it it states there is no theatre listed. Hopefully someone up that way will. I saw it once and it looked real nice.
No dates, but these two movies are playing. “TRAINING DAY” and “GLITTER”. They don’t believe in putting one sheets out.Looking at the picture i took it looks closed from the road.
Bbrown, I had relatives in East Tenn. and somehow managed to save a few SENTINELS,that is where i am getting my movies. I think most towns the size of Knoxville had in friday’s paper what was showing and what was coming next week. My paper here in Augusta had the same thing, and yes i saved a few of them.
Georgia Square Mall was the best place to go in Athens to see a movie.Granted we only had four screens and as mentioned above"THE BIG CHILL" seem to play forever. Being in the mall helped. never could understand why GCC was so hellbent on Five more screens in the parking lot. I think at that time GCC must have been in a race with AMC for most screens and they over screened in Athens and Augusta,Georgia. And most likely in other towns. “VACATION” also had a long run there as did “DICK TRACY”. “MR.MOM” with Terri Garr kept me in the cinemas more so than any kid flick ever did.
Why on earth didn’t you SAVE that.Plez tell me someone stole it.We have had only one WORLD PREMIERE here “THREE FACES OF EVE” back in the 50’s.But had one of my theatres had a big event like you guys I would have bent over backwards to get a one-sheet signed.
Nick, also included are a few more theatre stories I wrote. They are not as good as your, but they a few cute stories, like the HOOKERS working a Drive-in.
Nick, How are the stories coming. I am sending you some pictures of National Hills after it closed and the MODJESKA in augusta having the Marquee torn down.
Robin, I ran off some more color pictures of NATIONAL HILLS after it closed. Some will make you sad.like the wrecking crew tearing out the concession area and ceiling,Light Fixtures hanging. Also a PIECE Of the screen is included. Hope you can put some of the pictures on CT.
Was this one of the TWO ABC THEATRES we had in that Ocean town?

“BIG DADDY” rated PG-13 and “ARLINGTON ROAD” rated R.
Robin, I am sending you a few pictures, one is the ad from opening night at COLUMBIA 1 and 2 theatres.
Heck, i bet you guys got so many Country artists you couldn’t remember them all.But did you let them in free.
