Yeah, please do on the Diane 29. I have visited Kings mtn,but never caught a film there.Beautiful Drive-in with the Mountains behind the screen. Took a few pictures of Kings Mtn. Visited the old DIANE 29 site years ago, a shopping center was in part of the old Drive-in,but part of the booth/snack bar was still standing.

Graeme McBain,I have tried to put together a history of theatres from Hendersonville. All are on CT. It would great if you were able to add to them. i think you had a QUEEN THEATRE in that town.

I have the SKY HIGH Drive-in parking 432 cars and in the late 50’s it was owned by Kayton Amusement Company.

Wait Don’t do it!If you can’t get the facts right it ain’t worth getting “called on the carpet” for a mistake and believe me if some guys and catch a small mistake i made on a few Augusta theatres, just think you being in a larger city they will eat you alive. I am a Scorpio.{not that i give it any creedence]

He was a union Projectionist and like i wrote above worked on “LAST AMERICAN HERO” filmed in that area and made moonshine on the side. I was told the owner of the Diane 29 came home and found his family murdered and the next day closed the drive-in which I am told was named after a daughter. Is the BELMONT DRIVE-in going to open this summer< Iheard the lady that owned it,and I met her several times in the past when we would visit CAROWINDS and John Mackey, had died. She was a nice lady, even though I thought they should put some money in the place to fix the snack bar and restrooms.

Glad to come across this theatre been by it a bunch of times on the way to Hilton Head.Stopped a few times and snapped some pictures. I noticed no marquee for movie titles, guess there were a few theatres like this one.

Nick.seems like alot of Drive-ins become church sites or lousy shopping centers that have now fallen on hard times like the old Drive-ins they replaced.

Yeah, John it was a great theatre.wehad nothing like it in Augusta. If you are from Gastonia go to the U.S. 29 DIANE Drive -in in Gastonia. I heard a horrible murder took place there and i have been trying to confirm it.It is one of those Theatre stories I heard years ago. Was Richard Hamilton Showing movies there when you worked there he certainly was wild guy in the booth. I think John Mackey told me the theatre became a carpet outlet.

I find it hard to believe that the WILLOWDAILE was the first ever mutiplex to open in the city the size of Durham/Raliegh in 1985.That above statement about 1985 being the year the first muliplex hit that rather large area is hard to believe, but maybe this area liked single screens ,which by the way ain’t a bad thing!

You are going to have to do what Nick as done and me to,to a lesser extent and start writing up a history on your city’s Drive-ins if they aren’t already on CT.

Mike Rogers commented about National Hills Theatre on Mar 16, 2010 at 10:13 pm

Robin, went to the theatre chains listed on CT and saw GEORGIA THEATRES and guess what our NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE was listed as a GEORGIA THEATRE,which in all fairness it closed as a Georgia THeatre Company theatre, but man I would love to see ABC THEATRES or PLITT theatres, but that is life. Don’t mind the other Augusta theatres being listed under the Georgia Theatre banner, but NATIONAL HILLS was such a step above the entertaiment peddled at Georgia Theatres here in AUGUSTA.
