Robin, I have certain pictures from the theatre in the book I made for you,Like Mr.Pete, that was a black and white picture when it was shot. The cover of the Book could be on CT.what about “DIANE” marquee, you have so much and can design something better than me. I expected Cathy to be on here.Well, you got the same problem I do old employees that just will not get on CT.We could get some Posts on here that would Rival those New York City theatres that have 1000 comments. we need to AIM for THAT.this is AUGUSTA.

I thought about scanning the book, but it sorta might be over doing it with CT readers.I wouldn’t want them to see all the fun we had in the business.I will select a few more and mail them your way.You should be getting a ton of stuff from me Saturday or Monday. I have a copy of shots of C.Dray at REGENCY MALL CINEMAS that I could send. About the reunion I know i can get agood many of my crowd from my days and suggest we do it at a resturant somewhere around the Mall. You and I living where we do is do is a bit far for those who aren’t hardcore, but would like to come. We had a reunion party in Evans and it just drew a few folks.

Yeah, they hacked up my NATIONAL HILLS to a triple, the projectionist had to shoot on film out of the popcorn room.COLUMBIA 1 and 2 were first a triple, then they went to COLUMBIA 2 and then we had a quad. I guess it is a businees first, but they never should have touched NATIONAL HILLS. Robin, told me on the Imperial site she kept the ticket number of the last ticket sold! wow!

I never have liked REGAL Cinemas and I am A man of the PAST.Hell, I still my GCC coat. It fits. That red ABC coat really belonged to JIM Neely who was Assistant at THE IMPERIAL and NATIONAL HILLS when he quit he never gave the jacket back, just forgot and the theatre never asked about it. I found it much later and he,like Robin, gave it to me to keep.

Okay, on the Savannah river below the Drive in QUITE A FEW. Have you ever heard of FLICKR? came across it on my REGENCY MALL Cinemas and someone wrote that a manager was Killed there in a robbery. I am 99% sure that is FALSE.I am not on FLICKR so i couldn’t respond even though I did on the REGENCY MALL CINEMAS site.

There is something on something called FLICKR about a manager being shot at the Theatre. I believe this to be false. There is no way a theatre was killed there because I for one would know it. I would have to see proof about that. Yeah, the mall went bad, once folks were bused up from Downtown Augusta to lay around the mall, buy nothing, yeah it went Bad,but no manager was killed there.

Here is a little bit of information on this Drive-in. The Jet Drive-In was running movies in 1956 with room for 400 cars. It was owned by Western Amusements.

Just heard from Aiken County Theatre Historian,Bill Barkley, that when the Drive-in closed in the late 50’s.He said 1955, that the 35mm projectors were shipped to the MILLER theatre in AUGUSTA .They used them until a platter system was installed in The MILLER.

Hey,Mark since you live near GASTONIA,did you ever hear the story about the murders at Diane 29 Drive-in in Gastonia? For years I have heard what happen and have the story on the Diane 29 Drive-in site. But never got it confirmed by a local. Or what is true or not about the story.

Yeah, I just got to get Robin a better picture of PANTHER, Robin, those are great stories on the HILLTOP; are crying out to be placed on the HILLTOP SITE. I have quite a bit,but i never worked there. The swings you swang on are in EVANS,GA. Tom Dray’s dad as the projectionist there and when hey closed p he took them to his home for his kids.Last time i drove by,the white swings were still upright. If you have any stories from your folks get them on. I know Nick and TSLOEWS are waiting.

I don’t think they would hurt each other money wise because they operated in that town for a long time, and like i said in walking distance there was another Drive-in on that same road. Just can’t remember it .

You know that’s the knd of twin theatre a old theatre guy like me would love to have,However,Winter in that state is another thing. beautiful theatre. I bet the Single screen was great. Everyone just had to TWIN,TWIN, and TWIN in the 70’s.

Mike Rogers commented about DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA on Feb 23, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Well, you certainly missed out on the 70’s fun with late shows. Do you remember at the end of the movie she is walking to the camera and a car in the background is driving backwards down the street. We played “CARRIE” i never watched it except when i had to see the ending to get the exit doors open. I saw it and never could undrstand why the VW bug {ithink}was driving backwards. Well, one spots stuff like this seeing the movie over and over. Like Ned Beatty’s gun holster being on different sides in the movie “SILVER STREAK” Jill Clayberg use to be my movie star girl. Terri Garr TOO!
