I wish Tom would tell John and Cathy Arena. I just don’t know if they would come since they never worked while you guys were there. But I think, they use to be close. I mentioned it to Laura Tinney and she said she was going to get on CT,but I see no sign of her or Mr.Tinney. JERRY BABY,as she called him.
The Skyview is showing REDD FOXX and PEARL BAILEY in “NORMAN IS THAT YOU” being shipped from the MILLER to the Skyview. Second film is “MIXED COMPANY” both rated PG.
Toward the end of Burt Lancaster’s great career he was making films that really one wonders about. “TWILIGHT’S LAST GLEAMING” was one such movie he made. And with all the hype it wasn’t Lancaster,
Interesting item, and i don’t know how much money he lost, but theatre owner Albert Weis had a money BACK GUARANTEE on this movie if you didn’t it was the most exciting movie ever made. I could see that offer being a pain the butt refunding money. I can only assume they gave out passes for another movie. My cousin told at this theatre they would refund moviegoers not liking a Movie. WOW!.
It certainly did not close in 1975 because i have newspaper ads to prove, plus on HENDERSONVILLE OUTDOOR CINEMA,same as above it was running films into the 80’s.
There outta be a LAW to keep Theatre owners from Changing names. The Joy drive-in in that same town closed in the late 70’s under the name JOY OUTDOOR CINEMA,both drive-ins owned by the same husband and wife team.
Well, I have found out the hard way, that some people can’t write. I really expected once i told the old gang I worked with from 1974 to 1980 about CT that we would all give AMERICA something to read. You are the only one,so I wouldn’t look for any writing.
Chuck 1231,while i do most of my local theatre histories from memory;meaning sometimes by facts get crossed,Nick spends hours in research. Years ago,he put a book together called “FILMS I SAW AT THE RITZ THEATRE” and not only had all the movies, but personal stories on many showings! He has friend in Tampa that wrote about his life as a projectionists.Personally, at the time, cause i had no idea people were into old theatres and stories would only intrest me,but it would great if both books were on CT.
EVERYONE OF THE ABOVE POSTS concerns GEORGIA SQUARE MALL CINEMAS 1,2.3.4. . I never worked at the five plex outside. Craig Zacker was the first manager. He was the city manager there until he stood his ground when a district mgr. fired one of his friends working at GCC in Atlanta. Zacker said “To Hell with it,if that is the way this company is going to treat a decicated manager, I am out of here.” Craig Zacker walked out a man of his words and ran a horse camp in Athens until his untimely death.
It wasn’t too long GCC ,once a proud chain had gone BROKE.
I know many theatre couples dated. A few got married. Don’t really see why he would care.We never had policy at ABC PLITT about dating.
GCC had one , but didn’t stop the guys and gals from going out. really, hard to enforce it unless they can’t control themselves at work. I don’t think I would have lasted a week with Anderson.
I remember playing some of these movies on Late Shows in 1974 and 1975 and even then the prints were not in the best of shape. I guess that is the fun of going to the DRIVE-In.Like NEWT said wish you were closer to GEORGIA.
I would love to have a BOR from one of our Plitt theatres, and wished i’d saved one,but never did. I know how important it is label the backs of photos i always tried to remember to jot theatre names down and years.
My cousin worked for REGAL when they bought out UA.He said they snooped around checking his credit all kinds of crazy stuff. He wouldn’t say it, but I know he hated that KNOXVILLE,TENN,homegrown theatre chain.
RIPSIN, I am working a history on the SKYLAND ARTS CINEMA in Hendersonville.Hopefully, you will be able to comment on this Art theatre which opened when the CAROLINA 1 and 2 were sold for a bank.

Nick, which Tampa theatre are you doing next.I wish CT readers could find this article you wrote and comment.
Robin, I just added the DREAMLAND THEATRE in Augusta. I am sure Bill remembers it as a kid.
Speaking of Cathy, I thought she was getting on CT.
I have heard about every theatre story on CT. We will have to post it with names changed to protect the innocent. We can take a vote.
