Even with my pretty good memory,it took awhile, but Tinney fired me in Nov. 1980. that night i drove up to NATIONAL HILLS guess in a state of shock, but sometimes it does one good to be brought down to earth if one is only an Assistant Mgr,at a twin theate.
GREAT,You can count on ME wanting pictures{COPIES} The picture you took from the IMPERIAL was the marquee “EYEWITNESS” and “DEATH HUNT”. I hope you can find them. I will bring my album. Bill has hundreds.
Another great thing about this is that you will get to know other theatre people and really enjoy discussing working there. I am talking with theatre people from Nashville to Hawaii. tisloews is one guy iam always talking the old days about. He worked for Loews but loves my stories,as i do his.
How could such a concept theatre work. X rated porn on one side and maybe a G or PG on the other screen. Surely, they were separated with no chance of a child slipping in a X rated movie,And what about the restrooms.
I have seen twin theatres play a X rated feature like Warhol’s “DRACULA”,but no a constant flow of adult movies.Quite, frankly i am surprized it ever went over in Houston.and i wouldn’t want to manage such a set up.
Nick, When you see NATIONAL HILLS,IMPERIAL and COLUMBIA 1and2 on it will be me and Robin talking old days at our theatres. Can you believe we are getting 5 inches of SNOW here in Georgia tonight.WHERE IS AL GORE?
I have Columbia 1 and 2. I have the picture you took of the Imperial closing night.Several of National Hills, Miller,SouthGate,Daniel Village.North 85 Drive-in,Modjeska and Hilltop Drive-in.
Maybe, they can take what i wrote and combine them since theyare the same theatre to help folks searching for the theatre.DAVIS THEATRE/OVERTON THEATRE. I guess that does happen often with theatres.
Good Golly,Robin you worked in a DRIVE-In. You must have worked for several chains. You are more of a old theatre dawg than me. I figured you worked at NATIONAL HILLS and got pluggedin everywhere else for Plitt theatres like I did.I never even realized you guys went to ATL with MR.Anderson.Maybe BIll Told me. You can blame him for not inviting you all to our big 1985 1986 reunions. I know his daughter should have been able to find someone becuse she knew you all.
I have collected stuff from ticket stubs found in closed theatres to Drive -in speakers from here to East Tenn. But,like so many theatre collectors it would hard to part with it.
I remember my folks coming back from your beautiful state and i told them all i wanted was the Honolulu friday paper to see the movie ads and when i saw that a Drive-in was in that state it sorta threw me because of space and real estate. for years i kept that paper and it still might be here and the first “INDIANA JONES” movie was playing at that Drive-in.I remember that like it was yesterday. I’ll get my DVD’s out and look closly at the end credits.I like to say it was HAWAII theatre. Thanks vito.
I did TAKE pictures of the PASTIME theatre there,But Heck, I ain’t got no way to put them on here.I wish i could mail them to CT and let those computers brains put them on.
Robin, I don’t have the equipment or smarts to put pictures on here, but if you can I can bring pictures of most if not the Theatres you have listed on you page. Just let me know.I would be so proud to AUGUSTA’S finest screens on here.
I see the Overton Theatre.Thanks. Did i tell you a NATIONAL HILLS employee is having a reunion FEB 20.She was assistant Mgr.I had already been canned at COLUMBIA SQ. But I did know her. She hopes to have a few old employees.Barkley WILL be there. She’s really into CT,so maybe someone here can keep our past alive.
Yeah,I mailed the Dreamland and Overton{Texas} several weeks ago. If you lost them i can do another. My friend Tim at the Imperial was working on thr DREAMLAND,but like said he works when the mood hits.
Which i understand beacuse he is doing research and mine mostly comes me remembering.
The projectionist yelled something like"get the BLEEP out of here"
I guess “FANNY HILL” sounded inviting. I ran back p the hill to the shopping center my mom was buying food at.You just wonder if one or both of those “boys” are on CT today.both like theatres.
I have a son SEAN, who did follow dad’s footsteps and did work a few years in the business,I guess he will take care of that even though i wasn’t happy the day i saw my"CLOCKWORK ORANGE" one sheet pinned up in his room.
Vito, Do you remember the theatre shown on the end credits on one of my favorite TV shows HAWAII5-0. I think the first three seasons it showed a downtown theatre,
Also,i swear I saw aDRIVE-In in one episode of 5-0. Could have been the KAM DRIVE-In.I mean,I understand you might not know this.
I know most of the UA product played there.I don’t think it was open when Connery played Bond under the UA banner. I know in fact “A SPY WHO LOVED ME” played there cause John Mackey,Mgr,let me do a newspaper ad on that movie that i have even today.
