In 1967 the Forest hills was playing two horror movies that probably could not be found anywhere today. THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE and second feature is THE TERRORNAUTS. Admission is $1.00 Kids under 12 free. Lot of nightmares.
I found the AD! THE SOUND OF MUSIC playing at DANIEL VILLAGE in 35mm not 70mm. 70mm was at NATIONAL HILLS and it should have open there instead of DANIEL VILLAGE. It was being held over. Shows at 2pm and 8pm. Boxoffice opened at 1pm for the matinee and 7pm for the evening show,
JULY 4 1965 NOW SHOWING GOLDFINGER with a second feature of INVITATION TO A GUN FIGHTER. After these movies THE CARPETBAGGERS and TOPKAPI will play.Starting on wednesday.
Acording to later Box office reports I found these movies did the most business THE FLINTSTONES,TRUE LIES,LION KING, and FORREST GUMP.This is during a short period!
Bob, It might have been called the Scenic Drive in at one time but when i saw the Marquee it was called the Newport Drive in. Do you know the name of the other Drive in that was just down that same road?
OF all Augusta’s Theatres this one got the least respect. It was thrown up block building in the BACK of the shopping center. It was certainly not has pretty as NATIONAL HILLS or even DANIEL VILLAGE.
In other words, even films like HELLO DOLLY opened there they would have better suited at National Hills.
Godfather 2 opens first run at WEIS. never could understand PARAMOUNT booking fine movies in such small theatres/SCREENS.It had along run mainly because of the small amount of seats in each of the two theatres.
Thank You for not making me feel like some oddball,my ex-wife could never figure out what i saw walking in Old Drive-ins, sliding though an old busted exit door in some old busted downtown to look inside.
Honestly, I thought I was the only person in the world that cared about old theatres. CINEMA TREASURES has proved me wrong.Boy, Have you. Happy 2010.
THE Skyway Drive-in parked 566 cars in Erie making it the largest Drive in in the late 50’s. It was owned by Co-Op.They owned several Drive ins in that state.
I found a 100 Rifles one sheet with a scene of JIM BROWN and Raquel Welch in a romantic hug! The manager at the time covered it up with a white sheet of paper. I have the poster AND kept the paper covering the questionable scene for that time.
No I never had a Bud at the Miller,but we did have a MILLER Lite one night after getting a ballet out of that theatre after the local ARTS group was using it. It was the only time i ever did a downtown theatre marquee was during the ballet. I should have insisted on doing one at theIMPERIAL,but never thought about it. Everyone hated doing the Marquee. I LOVED IT!
Even when I was an ASSISTANT MGR, No one did the marquee but ME. I know it made a bunch of ushers happy.
I would never do it cause,well it would be wrong,but I think it has crossed anyone in a check out office if they are honest with themselves.Today, I don’t think the cops would follow us to the bank. In those days the county had a population of 30.000 people today its well over100.00 folks and i don’t see them doing it.

CAT BALLOU opens first run summer of 1965 at the Imperial following a long run of IN HARM’S WAY.
Across the street the MILLER is playing 007 in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. almost all the early Bonds played the MILLER. 1967.
In 1967 THE IMPERIAL is playing THE DIRTY DOZEN. with shows starting at 12;30.3:15, 6:15 and 8:45.

Last time I visted Middlesboro the theatre was open as a playhouse.The main theatre THE MANRING was lost to a fire.It is on CT.
