Unlike the KNOX THEATRE,the concessionstand was inside the WILKES theatre. It would not surprize me to find out it had a balcony; The lady i spoke to with the historical society could not tell me if Washington,Ga. Had a Drive-in.Even though in my Motion picture Almanac 1956 lists one.
Luckly I do have a picture of this theatre.Maybe the only one.
Con on the new Kenny Rogers. He came to the Imperial Theatre in Augusta,Ga. When he was still with the NEW EDITION. He saw DIRTY MARY & CRAZY LARRY. He wanted a cup of Ice ,But the manager could not give him a free cup because they were an inventory item.So Kenny walked next door to SNAPPY’S a little hamburger joint next to the IMPERIAL to get a free cup. What a bone head manager,I would have given him a cup and wrote it off as damaged.
WELL. We have a problem with the Fred Williamson film the LEGEND OF N…… CHARLEY. what a title .I mean it is a black movie not some KKK feature. I guess we did like alot of urban theatres did and put THE LEGEND OF BLACK CHARLEY. Left the one sheets alone. Come on people seeing this western know the game we are playing. But what a title.
Nick. I left a comment on THE TODD THEATRE. Oh, I wrote Bill a letter telling him we need his help on background on the Aiken Theatres.I told him too either send you or me the info. Maybe you could send him a run off on the IMPERIAL OR THE FOX DRIVE in.

Iknow a closed up GENERAL CINEMA in AUGUSTA, GA. When they went broke they locked the doors and walked away i bet that booth is full of trailers.I sneaked in by a back exit door and witha flashlight walked all over the place.Mainly looking for one sheets. I did grab an old film can had i known anyone wanted trailers i could have grabbed a box full.Probably a few more locations like the one here in Augusta.
We have CHILDREN’S APPRECIATION DAY. The employees are dressing up as Cartoon figures in crazy costumes. Parents get in free, charing the kids $1.50. Large crowds.
Jim Neely is in the paper; they took a picture of him changing the Marquee at the IMPERIAL. He is putting up the next feature SHADOW OF THE HAWK.the paper is doing a article on superstitions, hence the 20 foot a frame ladder he is on. I never got in the paper, of course the paper is only a block away!
1974 Talked John Mackey into playing LAST AMERICAN HERO with JEFF BRIDGES. Its a stock car movie filmed in his neck of the woods in North Carolina. {2009 I believe it did okay for a very off beat late show}
Karen Harpe and Cathy McNitt are constantly throwing ice at me when i walk by the concession. They seem to enjoy it. Well, Karen is moving to the Box Office, but heck, that is too close to the concession stand. I noticed the girls are counting inventory on one side and closing it up and getting candy from the side open. They say it gets them out earlier and i guess on a slow night it makes sense.
NINE TO FIVE opens at COLUMBIA 1 to massive crowds.I know this is not a Jane Fonda town. It is DOLLY PARTON they are coming to see and DOLLY PARTON is Mr.Adams favorite country performer. Everytime i walk up in the boothand the movie is starting he has NINE TO FIVE blasting off the soundtrack in the booth. It doesn’t bother me even though i am a ALICE COOPER man.
I wanted to visit a Drive in in Tampa when i brought the kids down from Georgia and my friend Nick wanted us to visit a Drive in. Nick, admitted it was a gem in its day. He knows the projectionist so he had alot of great stories to tell. Like i Told Nick that was the most screwed up drive in i had seen in awhile.{there is triple drive in in Commerce,Ga. that is almost as BAD. We watched AMOVIE ON A FENCE at the FUN-LAND, AN HONEST TO GOODNESS FENCE.talk about greed.
And how the heck do you get out of there on a crowded night?
It is hard to believe and Adult theatre would switch product from X to PG,but in noticed the MODJESKA played FIVE ON THE BACKSIDE a PG movie, very rare once they went R ratings only.
Surprize of the evening my girlfriend and future wife pops in one evening unannounced.Just glad i was behaving myself with the girls at the theatre.I know she remembered REGENCY cause that is where we met.
Friday night after the midnight shows Charles and I drive out to Mike’s {our relief Projectionist} for a Athens Party. IT was theatre folks and friends. And these theatre people DRINK just like my buddies with ABC THEATRES. Charles got so wasted i had to drag him out of the car and put him to bed. A first.
Saturday morning Charles had the mother of hangovers and could not work Saturday morning. We went in at 10am everyday with GCC. SO Zacker and myself had to get the place ready. Charles dogged in that evening. We all worked til 2am .
One thing i noticed quickly when i started working was there was NO ONE SHEETS from past movies.I asked some of staff and sure enough since the place had been open the posters hang in GEORGIA dorms,COLLEGE TOWN ! I had hoped to find a few gems.
I know several times kids asked me for one sheets ; I can count on my hand how many times i was asked for posters in Augusta.
WE had a 20 amp breaker go bad in one of the service panels.I told ZACK i could change a breaker and save the company a few bucks. He call a electrican from Athens.Total waste of money.
One thing about GEORGIA SQUARE is it is so much larger than REGENCY TRIPLE. We have a nice check out room. The stock room is twice the size as REGENCY and while the popcorn room at REGENCY seem to be in a closet the one here is nice enought, the employees have a desk to study since most all of them go to UGA.
At GEORGIA SQUARE we can keep all the drink cups in the stock room.At REGENCY we had to store some in the booth and that teed DRAY off alot. I think ZACK misses Chuck Dray.
Well, our Assistant manager Charles has found a Girlfriend that means this other Assistant,ME is having to mind the store more. At 4pm Mr.Zacker is gone. She is the mall somewhere, the other day the guy bought flowers,no wonder our power bill is not getting paid.
Mr.Zacker is showing Charles how to make up an ad and made it clear he did not want me to give advice.Zack does a pretty good ad.
Bill Barkley shot quite a bit of closing night when the Cinema 3 was closing. Today, in Aiken there is no sign of a theatre. He had nice video of the booth, the films cans getting loaded up for the last time.
I think it was KENNY ROGERS AND THE FIRST EDITION,My mistake.
THANKS, Chuck 1231.Do you have any info on the MARK 1 ?

BIRD ON A WIRE is playing with GOLDIE HAWN and MEL GIBSON.
EDITHA, I have enjoyed reading about your theatres in England.

I wish this site said GEORGIA SQUARE CINEMAS 1.2.3.4 instead of value cinemas it looses it historical value.
