Keep it up Regal. BTW, Regal’s parent company is rumored to merge with Cineplex of Canada but that might not happen in the near future according to news reports.
Just an update on Union Square, all auditoriums are open except for theatre 4 and theatre 8 (now screen 9) downstairs. Theatres 1 to 8 are only open for late afternoon/evening shows due to construction.
Guess Regal.
Hello-
to be frank a colorblind person would have chosen a better color. I wonder who’s the idiot who chose the color?
Guess Regal logo is Orange
Hello-
to ridethectrain. since you post frequently here don’t you find the color of the new seats off-putting? as I said it looks like a pumpkin threw up. plus they’re nowhere near as comfy as the new seats at the AMC/Loews 19 St.
Update: Theatre 4 last day will be this Thursday, January 2. No films scheduled in the auditorium after Thursday showing of 1917 and Uncut Gems.
Regal took down the Union Square 14 from the outside marquee and replace it with just Regal. (see the photos section)
According to the theatre managemnt, theatre 17 is slated to be RPX. When I saw Star Wars, it was the only screen upstairs with Blue Lighting, but Regal was in a rush to open the screen, it waiting to convert it to RPX.
Also, theatre 5 4DX, they added 20 more seats to the capacity. They moved the entrance about a few feet to the right.
@jsbreezy Theatre 17 was correct as you said, it almost like screen 8 and 1 at the AMC Empire, full stadium seating. The screen was big, no masking.
Tentatively, going to see 1917 in screen 4 before it closes next year. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to sit in the balcony where I saw most of I my films, including “Enemy Of The State” and “Hurricane”. Out of the screens Regal pick for 1917, screen 4 is the biggest screen and the others are in the smaller houses. Hopefully, screen 9 is good. Did you hear if Union Square is getting RPX, that was a rumor I heard at another Regal location I visited.
Just uploaded in the photos section, pictures of Theatre 17 and old Theatre 8 views. The new theatre 17 screen, no masking, letterbox for scope films.
On Friday, December 20, theatre 17 (old theatre 8 balcony) opens, seating capacity 288. Hopefully, it’s a decent screen when “Star Wars” premieres. Hope to see the auditorium soon.
Hello-
i went to this theater Fri. 12/13 to see Uncut Gems. the new seats are uncomfortable if you’re taller than average' for a guy. also the color of the new seats looks like a pumpkin threw up. a color blind person would have picked a better color.
Thanks. Don’t know if my buddy Bill M. was there as a projectionist when you were there. I know he was there in the later 2000s.
Hi Mark, as I was the Chief Projectionist at Union from opening through March of 2006 and have kept in touch with some people, it is my understanding that both balconies in 4 and 8 are being extended to the front of the auditoriums. That being said, auditorium 8 will now be 2 auds and the lower level of aud 4 will be cut in half front to back. That’s where you now get 5 auds out of 2, hence the now 17 screens. That’s if my info is correct.
Just a quick question, since Ive never been to this theatre. My buddy use to be one of the projectionists here before it went digital. It was a 14 screen theatre. If you split two theatres balconies, that adds 2 screens for a total of 16. Where is the 17th screen coming from??
You could watch this trailer witch is currently playing at Regal. It was filmed on the 2nd level of Union Square and filmed in the old balcony of theatre 8. https://youtu.be/gseqaPibDtI
Update, theatre 11 opens Friday (old theatre 10) has 128 seats. Now the 6 small houses are open on the 2nd floor.
Please update, Regal Union Square 17 OPEN AND RENOVATING
The theatre is expanding to 17 screens. Cinema 4 and Cinema 8 balconies will be separate auditoriums. I don’t like the idea Regal is destroying Cinema 4 and 8 into seperate screens.
The theatre is getting new seats, no recliners. They are installing Klipsch surround speakers.
Curently, theatres 1 to 7 is still open and they recently open theatres 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16 on the second floor. The second floor looks similar to the recently open Regal Essex theatre. The only refreshment stand that open is on the main level. Look in the photos section of the new screens.
Theatre 10 121 seats (old theatre 9) Theatre 12 130 seats (old theatre 10) Theatre 14 138 seats (old theatre 12) Theatre 15 118 seats (old theatre 13) Theatre 16 86 seats (old theatre 14)
The theatre is still under renovations. Presently, only Theatres 1 to 7 are open. Theatre 8 and the upper level is closed. According to a Regal employee, Union Square will be getting RPX.
The usher said the 2nd floor will open next year. Presently, your purchasing tickets from kiosk or at the refreshment stand. The Regal project started last winter, can’t believe it takes a year to renovate a whole level. Posted a couple of photos from the theatre.
Please add to description, theatre open on November 13, 1998 and it was opened under United Artists Theatres. This was built by UA and had THX sound in theatre 3. It was branded Regal Cinemas in the mid 2000’s
On this date 20 years ago, The Phantom Menace made its debut here in Dolby EX and THX and became a huge hit.
Isn’t the Union Square under going renovation. It looks like only 7 screens are open at this time.
Unfortunately, this theatre dose not offer reduced prices before Noon. Doesn’t REGAL know that they have competition with the 19th Street, Village VII, Village East and Chelsea that offer discounts before noon.
Also, those theatres have recliners. Union Square still has those uncomfortable UA seats when it open in 1999.
Happy 20th anniversary to this theater this month!!! It was here during showings of Meet Joe Black that the teaser for “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” was shown before and after the movie, causing a media frenzy which resulted in a so-so movie that has become a defining moment for a young generation whose older siblings grew up with Star Wars and were weaned on the Special editions a year ago. It was during one of the showings that a man used a video camera, made a bootleg copy of the trailer with a packed crowd, and posted it on the internet way before Youtube existed. Soon after, the trailer made its debut on TV shows and on Apple’s website, where the second trailer broke records online. The rest is cinematic history.
United Artists Court Street also opened as a Regal, became a UA like Batter Park but never went back to being a Regal even though you can tell it was a Regal by the neon signage in the concession area on the main level. I guess they wanted no more UA’s left in Manhattan because Regal seems to be the primary brand they seem to want to concentrate one.
When this theater opened and battery Park they were opened under United Artist chain. Even after Regal purchase UA they kept the UA name except here and maybe Queens. Does anyone know why?
