The address does not work very well. The way I understand it, the theater faced Central Street and it’s back was to Franklin Street. Because the two streets are closest at Hamond Street, I would guess it was fairly close to that street?
Any help with an address, photos or info would be great!
After World War II the Military had thousands of surplus Quonset Huts and was selling them to anyone for $1,000. That is no doubt why so many Quonset Hut theaters showed up.
They were “invented” at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion (=C.B.=Seabees get it?) Center, at QUONSET Point, Rhode Island. I landed and took off from the now closed U.S. Naval Air Station Quonset Point (now called Quonset State Airport).
I THINK it opened ABOUT 1950? Info I have says Georgia Theater Company of Atlanta had it open in 1967.
tisloews, I seem to remember a shipmate I knew who was from Waycross telling me that a bunch of different railroads crossed each other in this town so it was called Ways Cross which became Waycross. “Join the NAVY and lean all kinds of things!”
Open from ABOUT 1950-1964? I’m fairly sure it was closed by 1967.
The owner from ABOUT 1955-1964 was Martin Theater of Georgia and Alabama Incorporated in Columbus, Georgia. They had around 159 theaters in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisinana, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington State. A number of those theaters were built especially for CINERAMA.
Can anyone come up with the exact address of the Roxy?
Andy, good for you, finding this one. All the times I’ve been in Clearwater since I was a kid and I’ve never noticed this one. I know I’ve been on Fort Harrison Avenue, cause south of here is the old Fort Harrison Hotel. Now the hotel, along with the, as far as I know still incomplete Super Power Building, across the street, is part of the, big FLAG Service Organization Scientology Complex.
Anyway I could not find anything about the theater, I hope someone else does!
The Google Street Photo shows a good view of the old Opera House. You can still see Opera House still faintly painted in the stone at the top of the building. Remolding was being done on the first floor when the photo was taken. Anyone know if the work is done yet and if anything is now useing the first floor?. The door to the second floor has IOOF on it, that’s for the Benevolent and Altuistic fraternal organization, Indepedent Order of Odd Fellows.
A photo can tell you a lot! Anyone have any old photos or other info?

Where did the name Marrh come from?
For some reason the Google Map has it off some blocks. It is closer to the Bowling Green Police Department on the Photo Map.

Why is it called a QUONSET Hut?

Ken Roe’s come up with about 13 Quonset Huts in a row. In case you don’t know want a Quonset Hut looks like, here’s a photo of one:

The theater showed 3-strip CINERAMA from 4/11/61-8/29/64
It ran KINOPANORAMA (a Russian 3-strip “copy” of CINERAMA) from 7/6/62-12/19/62.
70mm CINERAMA from 9/10/64.
Thanks, SilconSam!
Hope the theater and area gets saved. As time goes by, if anyone hears anything let us know.
Any other info, an address or photos?
I know it was closed by 1967.
Your best bet to see the theater is to click on the map and then click on the address on the left.
Anyone have any other photos?
“got address & photos?”
I found that it was open from ABOUT 1950-1975? I know for sure it was open in 1967.
CORRECT NAME IS:

Anyone have photos or an address?
I THINK it opened ABOUT 1950?
It was still open in 1967 and was still owned by Martin Theaters of Georgia and Alabama, Incorpoated of Columbus, Georgia.
I understand that the Interstate Hiway System first started in Tifton.
It was not open in 1967.
Tifton is the home of AGRIRAMA, which has nothing to do with CINERAMA. It is a Museum of Agriculture.
“got milk?” “got address?” “got photos?”

Christopher, do you know what business is in the theater now?
The Palace was not part of the Stein Theaters Circuit by 1967 so it was either with another circuit or had closed.
