Hello again Gene ‘64. You have me wonderiing about my memories of the Town and Country shopping center. I recall it having been located at 4th & University. I also remember the Backstage theater which was near this shopping center, but the only miniature golf course I recall was the Twin Lakes which was at that time in far west Lubbock.
Could the Backstage and the Chapparal have ever been one and the same?
Hello Jeff. As you may hay noticed the question has come up about the possiblilty of the Palace having had its name changed to the State(my posting) at some point in time. I don’t think this is the case but have just read your posting for the first time and you mention “sharp 1936 exterior and interior photographs of the Palace.”
I do not see any evidence to dispute or confirm that this Palace was in Lubbock as per the Star Archives website. I hope someone can confirm that it was the Lubbock Palace as it would be the first photo I have ever seen of it.
I can confirm this was not the STATE, because it was not located on a corner lot.
Great photo on the link posted by Mark. I especially like the hardware store to the left of the RIG that advertises hardware, furniture and “explosives”.
YAWN!!!
One more look at the QUEEN….

Does the FOX still look like the train wreck it did in 2003?
Looks like the EAGLE has has had a re-do and lost quiet a bit of character.
Don………….
A closer look reveals the QUEEN’S crown must have had some flashy neon at some point.
Hard to beleive that Bryan is not trying to preserve the QUEEN.

Hello Gene'64. I am finding you comments on Lubbock’s theaters some of the most interesting and in depth I have read.
Do you have photos of any of the theaters?
Thanks!!
Don… (Lubbock is home but my wife and I live in Grapevine)
Hello cosmic. I have no doubt about there having been a Palace in Lubbock.
Please see Robert Pratt’s comments on my posting of the STATE in Lubbock.
