If you want to get a look at a millionaire working in a concession stand, take in a movie some Saturday afternoon at the Showplace 6 and you will likely find R.A. “Skeet” Noret and his wife Sarah behind the counter selling cokes, popcorn and candy!
Me too, Richard! I started taking theater pictures about 30 years ago and I think the Red Raider was possibly gone before that. Lubbock was home from 1972-1996, but as kid I went there and remember that football player. I do have photos of the Golden Horse Shoe drive in and the Lindsey theater. Do you happen to remember the name of the drive in that was at Brownfield Hwy and Slide road?
What a great bit of memorabilia! Thanks for sharing!
Hello howell. I should have mentioned 15-20 years ago was the first and last time I saw the Rig. I am unsure if the Cinema Tour pictures were taken or posted in 2003, but it doesnt look like a lot has changed. I did notice one more red star missing from the front of the building in their pictures. A 2000 census reports a population of 3565. If the Rig is still standing, I suspect it remains empty. As with most of the old cinemas, a person would be trespassing to enter without permission. I did not get a look inside.

I took a couple of pictures several years ago when there was still a huge vertical “BERWYN” sign if anyone is interested.
