Loew's Capitol Theatre 1645 Broadway, New York, NY - 1953 3D Presentation.
Seventy-two years ago, Columbia Pictures sixth 3-D feature MISS SADIE THOMPSON had a Special Midnight Invitational Premiere hosted by Jose Ferrer at the 5,230 seat Capitol Theatre in New York City.
Regular showings began on December 24, 1953, at 9 AM with a personal appearance by Aldo Ray at 9:15 to “greet patrons personally and distribute autographed photos.”
Recorded on-set with multiple microphones, the original high fidelity three-channel (left/center/right) magnetic stereophonic sound was played back on a full-coat 35mm playback unit in the projection booth. The magnetic dubber was interlocked with the left/right projectors in order to maintain synchronization with the picture. The original stereo tracks do not survive.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has done archival preservation from the original left/right 35mm Eastman color camera negatives. MISS SADIE THOMPSON was released on 3-D Blu-ray by Twilight Time in 2016 and it is now out of print.
