66 Drive-In

From the Aug. 2, 1952 edition of Boxoffice. The original caption:

NEW 66 DRIVE-IN – This aerial view shows the new 66 Drive-In recently erected by Kerasotes Theatres in Springfield, Ill., alongside the new U.S. 66 superhighway being built south of the city. The theatre accommodates 1,307 cars, has RCA sound and Strong Mighty 90 projectors supplied by the St. Louis Theatre Supply Co. The screen is 83 feet high. The entrance is at the lower right center of the drive-in, the boxoffices in the center at the bottom, and the concession stand and projection booth in the center. The concession building features an 80-foot snack bar. A children’s playground is located just in front of the screen. A temporary roadway services the theatre until the highway project is completed. Highway engineers state that this is the busiest stretch of pavement in downstate Illinois.
