Odeon Cinema Leicester Square
When Oscar Duetsch did feel he should install an organ he certainly didn’t stint on the console, originally he settled for the cascade style but then switched to one-off designs like Worthing, Swiss Cottage (a chromium framed affair) and Bolton Odeon (another special chromium style with a way-out design) and without doubt the most famous console in the world ——– the beautiful five manual Compton organ installed in the Odeon Leicester Square, console designed by Charles Theobalds in conjunction with the Architect Andrew Mather, architect of this most prestigious Odeon cinema. Its original design once reflected the original outstanding 1937 Art Deco splay walls of the auditorium which were obliterated during a most ill advised decision in 1967.
