Image - Egyptian Solar Disc - Langley built the Alex, in his own words, to “provide a good place of entertainment to keep Glendalians from going to Los Angeles and Hollywood”.

Langley brought in Los Angeles architects Arthur G. Lindley and Charles R. Selkirk to design the theatre. Langley was interested in Greek art history which is likely why the theatre is predominantly designed with a Greek theme (some Roman and Egyptian characteristics are also present).

The Alex Theatre in Glendale, California, is a historic landmark located at 216 North Brand Boulevard in Glendale, California in the heart of Glendale’s business and entertainment district.

The theatre was built in 1925 and has a seating capacity of 1,400. Originally a neighborhood vaudeville house and movie palace, it was named after the son of its owner, C. L. Langley, who owned West Coast Theatres. Today, the Alex is a vibrant hub for the arts, hosting special events and live performances and movie screenings.
