The cinema officially opened on November 6, 1930, under the ownership of Mrs. Glendinning to bring “talkies” (sound films) to the Coorparoo suburb.1939: The venue underwent significant modern updates, which included a redesigned entrance, a new ticket box, and acoustic panelling on the walls and ceiling.1956:
The introduction of television to Australia severely impacted attendance numbers at single-auditorium suburban theatres across Brisbane.1965: Unable to compete with television and local shifts in commercial retail, the Roxy Theatre closed its doors for good.1967: The building was completely demolished. The vacant land was initially used as a car park for the adjacent Myer department store.
