Xmas 1962 was a bumper release time for Metro. They programmed Disney’s live action feature “Babes in Toyland” at the Liberty, and opened the family musical ”Billy Rose’s Jumbo” at the St James on 13 December. But their big holiday opener was actually the special format Cinerama spectacular “How The West Was Won” which launched at Hoyts Plaza on 26 December. Not content with just three city venues they also did a deal with Greater Union for a simultaneous release of “Jumbo” which commenced at the Capitol on 26 December too.
