St. James Theatre
3 ¼ x 4 inch glass slides were widely used for announcements and advertising in cinemas from the silent era through to the 1970s when more advanced technology was developed. This slide is from the 1940s, a time before the public attended massive firework displays heralding the dawn of a New Year, as is the current fashion. Many theaters ran these sort of very popular performances, often previewing an upcoming attraction, at Midnight on New Years Eve (and at other times of year too).
