St. James Theatre
In May 1930 Union Theatres dominated the Sydney city film scene. As well as the still standing today State and Capitol, there was the Lyceum, Empress (later rebuilt as the Victory/Rapallo), Lyric (later Forum), Crystal Palace (later rebuilt as the Hoyts Century) Hippodrome (later Civic/Palladium/Barclay) and not listed here was the Prince Edward in which UT had a financial interest. At the St James a record run was achieved by the second 100% all talking all (two strip) Technicolor feature length film “Gold Diggers of Broadway” (1929).
