St. James Theatre
According to Henry White architect George Kenworthy (1885-1954) the St James proscenium was 37 feet wide and 24 feet high. Subsequently Kenworthy set up his own practice, designing a number of notable theaters including the still surviving Sydney Cremorne Orpheum (1935). The St James maintained an orchestra well into the sound era, disbanding in 1947. Colorized photo.
