The Planets played the Circle - History - formed in 1958 with Brian Anderson (Drums), Graeme Howie (Piano, sax Organ), Ben E. Joyner (Guitar, Steel), Brian James (Tenor Sax), Leon Basil (Bass) and Ron Fewster (Guitar) The group played all of the big dances around Melbourne, having their own vocal group the Planetones, who later evolved into the Thin Men.

By the late 1950s, there was a good circuit of city and suburban dances including the Circle Ballroom at Preston, the Earls Court Ballroom at St Kilda, the Arcadia Ballroom, Thornbury, the Pascoe Vale Town Hall, The Canterbury Ballroom and the Coburg Town Hall.- Authors Shane Homan - Seamus O’Hanlon - Catherine Strong - John Tebbutt
