Photograph 26th July 1965 with a big front makeover, from top. Cinema name now set into cubes at centre above Cafe windows ABC and below barely distinguishable single cube ABC shield with tiny Rialto. Gone, the pair of classical stone flower urns either end of canopy.Completely blocking out the original five stone arches above the entrance doors is a film poster board displaying the film ‘The Knack’ starring Rita Tushingham. The six stone support piers painted in white dulux!!! Note, left side of photograph with its own canopied entrance the very popular Rialto Cafe. ABC retained most of their Cafes after WW2 like other big cinema chains due to their popularity until the early 1970’s one of the last ABC Restaurants to close was the very large 200 seat Regal Beckenham Restaurant, also designed by Robert Cromie.
