The earliest place that Seymour residents saw motion pictures was at its Metropolitan Opera House. The Opera House was housed upstairs in its earliest years and - in 1915 - was brought downstairs for safety reasons.
The Majestic Theatre opened on January 21, 1910 to become Seymour’s first, full-time movie theater. It would be joined by the likes of the Nolen Theatre, the Criterion Theater, the Texas Theatre, the Ritz Theatre, and the Brazos Drive-In. But here, the larger Opera House invited the Majestic Theatre to host a night of moving pictures. The cost of operating a live house became too much and the Opera House was phased out and used sparingly when movies became more profitable than stock and traveling shows.
