Upon further review, close inspection of the October 2015 Google Street view shows that the marquee is in fact still there, but the screen is down.

Screen Tower and concession stand still visible in 2004 Historic Aerial. Screen Tower still standing in 2008 Historic Aerial, but the concession stand is rubble. Screen Tower gone by 2010 Aerial.

Google Street view from August 2016 shows the screen tower still standing, not in great shape at all, but still there.

Apparently Scenic Hudson did not want a Wal-Mart or something along those lines going in across the street from the FDR homestead, so they bought the land under the DI and leased it back to the owners.

I believe I have located this Drive In. It appears to have been at the corner of State Route 247 and Wagner Boulevard. Bing Maps changed it from Greenfield Township to Carbondale, but I see no other reference to a drive in in Carbondale, and Greenfield Township IS in that same area. There is a 1969 aerial at Historic Aerials that clearly shows that a drive in was there, but I don’t see a screen so it may have already been closed. With current aerials from Bing and Google you can still tell one was there if you know what you are looking for, remnants of the projection booth/concession stand are easily visible on Bing.

A good address for this would be 577 Foster Avenue, Freeland PA. A house sits on the site now. Google street view from October of 2016 shows some kind of 3 part metal pole base at the head of the driveway, Bing Streetside from August 2011 shows the same, plus the base and frame of another sign structure next to it.

The drive-ins marquee appears to have been removed after checking Google Street View from September of 2016.

Google Street view from May 2012 shows the two round base footers that held the two poles that held up that sign in the photo section are still there.

Use the address of Theatre Drive, Duncansville PA. There is a Value Drug adjacent to the site. The last Historic Aerial that shows the drive-ins remnants is 2006.

A better address might be 421 Theatre Road, Carrolltown, PA 15722. Google Maps and Historical Aerials do not map properly to the current address, but do map properly to the one I just posted.

Rather odd, the aerial from 1952 shows 1 screen, the aerial from 1969 shows two, and the aerial from 1993, when it was still open apparently, shows only one screen again and the spot where the second was had been developed already.

I hope they keep going for a long time. I am born, bred and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area and still live there, but never went to any of the multitude of drive-ins we had growing up. My first ever drive-in was the Garden with my wife, who is from Northeast Pennsylvania where the Garden is, and where she still has family. Since then I have added 4 more drive-ins to my list but the Garden will always have that special place :)

One of the reasons that Loews/AMC unloaded these may have been due to the changing demographics of the area. Most of the major chains in that mall have long since disappeared and there are many urban style stores located there now. Heck, the last time I went there, several years back, there were THREE consecutive sneaker stores one right after the other. I think Sears is the last major tenant there and that is closing this year, or may have already closed.

They currently have ONE screen functioning as of May 24th, 2017. They are showing Baywatch and last years Jack Reacher movie. They started a Go Fund Me page back in April of 2017.
